Re: Daiwa SV103 versus Shimano Chronarch MGL

The biggest difference is the sv is aluminum and mgl is magnesium so its lighter. I also think the mgl has a smaller profile. Just to clear this up, MGL stands for Magnumlite Spool. It has no relation to the frame material. The Chronarch MGL frame is made of a composite material, not magnesium. If ...

Re: Is it the rod or the reel?

I don't think you can get a casting reel that isn't junk for 50 bucks. Spinning gear you can get a reliable shimano for 50 and dump the rest into a rod. If I wanted to do casting gear on a tight budget the reel comes first. You can get used td z in good condition for under 150. I have a couple $100 ...

Re: Gave up on kids gear

For my experience with my son, he was always eyeing my bait casting gear so I got him a learner bait caster and when he mastered it, the competition was on. Now he still eyes my gear but i taught him with left handed gear. One day he asked " Dad, how come you use right hand reels but you taugh...

Gotta go t-rig, so versital. In weeds, on top of weeds, deep, shallow and weightless. If there could only be 1 way it has to be the t-rig.

Re: Rod sensitivity subjective?

I thought the test in the video was pretty solid, at least for bottom contact rods. The rod that could detect the lightest weight dropped from the shortest distance wins. With bottom contact you are trying to detect subtle changes. It's not that complicated. With a cranking rod measuring frequency w...

Trying to find a way to justify buying the 400 hg. The 300 price point helps. Love my 500hg.
