I got a chance to spend a few hours today with the MBR 844. I first tied on a 3/8 oz chatterbait with a keitech paddle tail trailer. It fished that bait perfectly. I also used a 1/2 oz jig with a craw trailer as well. The rod felt just as at home with the jig as well. Sadly I had zero bites on either and the only thing the fish wanted was a jerkbait
. I will keep putting in more time with the rod to help draw comparisons to the NRX line. I will say the rod felt very crisp and blank diameter seemed to be slightly thinner than the older IMX 844 I had years ago. This rod is precisely what I was hoping for and I feel the sensitivity is outstanding. When the jig bite kicks in I will keep fishing the rod side by side with a NRX 873 to see if I can distinguish a difference in feel. If there is it is not by much and I really appreciate the nice full grip cork option of the GLX 844.
I think if I guy wanted to build an arsenal around the new GLX rods to mirror the older GLX rods (not the last gen green rods) he would be happy to start with the MBR series and then add in a few specialty rods as needed.
