GLX 852

Postby BRONZEBACK32 » Thu Feb 23, 2017 2:58 pm

Has anyone used the new GLX 852?

I have a NRX 852 and a NRX 852s, I love this blank and want another but I want to see if the GLX is just as sweet.

Maybe a 842 to mix it up a bit???

Have the new 842 GLX mbr, I love it and I'm a 852 nrx guy too. It's very similar to the 852 nrx in power but a smoother taper. Makes a better jerkbait rod, but still great for bottom contact. Very pleased with the 842! Sensitivity is surprisingly close to NRX, the 893 glx I tried was a much larger difference from nrx to glx.

Nice, out of the 842 GLX and 852 NRX what one would cast lighter lures?
I noticed the 842 is rated higher for line and lures...

Don't pay much attention to the lure/line ratings, they carried some of those over from the old series. In jigs the 852 could handle more weight, but it's close...I wouldn't go over 1/2 oz jerkbaits on either one. The tip is almost the exact same, but the 842 is a smoother taper so it doesn't feel as powerful in hand, but with a fish on they feel the same to me. I really liked the 842 for 4" senkos, medium shaky heads, and jerkbaits.

How is the sensitivity between the two?

Like I said very favorable. I haven't directly compared them head to head with same line, same lure, same time etc... As a guy who's obsessed with hyper sensitive rods, I can tell you the 842 is exceptionally close to NRX level. As mentioned I've owned other GLX, and a lot of other rods, this is the first I've seen that is this close to NRX.

You're going to love it! It's nice to have a full grip cork rod as well to mix it up

That is actually one of the reasons I decided to go with the 842

Got the rod today, its pretty sweet and I love the looks and full grip.

Now to the problem..........
Guess what it is?
Think NRX issue.

Yes that is right, the foregirp cork on my GLX lifts right off the shim/handle threading, it looks like Gloomis added
maybe one drop of epoxy to hold it [-(

So instead of calling I just glued it on myself, but if it comes back off (which I doubt because I did a better job then Loomis) then I will be contacting Shimano.

Other then that issue, the rod guides and wraps/epoxy looks excellent.

Sorry to hear that man, it's frustrating for sure. It seems like whenever Loomis comes out with a new series lately it takes a little while before they work the kinks out...and the kinks are always simple QC things ](*,) I'll never understand this, but there blanks have spoiled so we're kinda stuck with each other. You'll love that rod though. I know I do

I got to fish the rod today, I like it as much as my NRX rods.
Its super sensitive and I can't tell the difference between the GLX 842 or NRX 852 besides the action.
