Best value jerkbait rod

Postby Bassineric93 » Tue Apr 18, 2017 9:27 am

I know a lot of this website is dedicated to high end gear but I was looking for suggestions for a good value rod for a dedicated jerkbait rod preferably in the 1/2 ounce range but could handle 5/8 too. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

I'd suggest a Hammer Rods 7' Medium Heavy as one of the best sub $200 rods on the market. At $177 before the "TT10" discount code at The Tackle Trap, it's a great buy already. It has the right taper and power to fish larger jerk baits. In my hands, it fishes like a strong medium or light medium heavy with a nice deep flex into the blank. Great rod for your intended purposes...

The new Megabass Orochi xXx rods aren't obscenely priced, and they do have the OneTen Stick available. Not sure what your price range is, but The Tackle Trap has them up for $260. They would seem to fall between the Levante and Orochi XX rods performance wise.

Thank you for your replies. I can get a 6'10" medium moderate Zodias for $150. Would that be a good choice also?

I've been using an original daiwa tatula 701mrb. Absolutely love it for jerk baits.

I've used a lot of rods around the $100 range and the dobyns fury 705cb is heads above the competition in that price range IMO. It is a great all around treble hook rod.

Zodias will definitively do the work. I love these rods even though they are not the most high end. All fun to fish.

In the cheap department, Powell Diesel is tough to beat. And lots of deals these days on these rods.

I like the Tatula 6'10" m/xf for jerkbaits. The solid tip gives it a dual taper which makes the bait easy to work, the hooks easy to set, and the fish easy to land. There is plenty of back bone to get a hook set, but since it's a medium power it bends well to fight the fish. It's also a killer flick shake rod. I have mine paired with a 7.2:1 SV105 and it's hard to put down.

To be honest for me the best jerkbait rods I've had have been by 13 Fishing. the original Omen blacks. I think I had Australian models somehow but I had a 6'3" 1/6oz to 1/2oz medium fast and a 6'10" medium light fast 1/8oz to 3/8oz. both we're super awesome and jerk bait rods, crank rods, topwater rods , and kight bottom contact presentations. super sensitive foe me. used in for ocean fishing too right off the Jetties and the Bay beaches and whatnot.
When in doubt bass like hotdogs.....
