High gear ratio uses

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

High gear ratio uses

Postby lifeofRiley » Fri Mar 17, 2017 6:26 am

Curious now that reels in that 8:1 and above have been around for a while what people are using them for. I did buy two sv103s in 7.9 and a met 8.5. Does anyone ever use reels like that for moving baits? I know A mart has said before that he uses almost exclusively the met xg for all presentations. The only reason I'm asking is because I'm chewing on getting another metanium, but not sure on the gear ratio. I also want a tat sv when they're released. And I already have more reels than I can use :?

anything bottom bouncing, senko's, frogs, buzzbaits- perfect matches for the xg

I think it would be fine on applications like slow rolling a paddletail over pockets in the grass
