You are probably right. I thought it kinda liked like a V spool with round holes at first. For a second I thought he had discovered a "Red Emblem" ZPI spool.

In my experience it is. It tends to chip instead of just rub off with light pressure like the vanilla TD-Z's. It seems like it has a clear coat of some sort on it as they scratch, but it doesnt scratch the actual colored paint. A few of mine have chips, only one has a true scuff and it is TINY! The reel feet seem to get banged up more often than anything else. I've used my blue one for two seasons now and have yet to put a noticeable mark on it and one of my reds got a lot of work this spring, same thing.
