Whatever makes me

Re: Budget Sweet Spot... Casting Reels
I like premium reels at discount or used prices, which means I have to wait awhile to get what I want. I haven't been bitten by the TWS bug, so I'm still buying the classic reels. My last three reels have all been TDZ variants.

I like to live lavishly.

I seem to have developed a fetish for some of megabass offerings.

Sky is the limit for me as long as it's a Shimano.
Re: Budget Sweet Spot... Casting Reels
For the money the Curado 70 and 200I is hard to beat.
Curado 200I paid $99 from Scheels
Curado 70XG paid $142 from scheels (price match)
I cant express enough how big a deal X-Ship is to these lower end reels.

Re: Budget Sweet Spot... Casting Reels
I try to keep inshore reels under $250 and offshore reels under $500
Inshore reels like the new Tranx that sell for $280-300 are on my
shopping list so "out the window" goes my cost controls
Maybe do

Re: Budget Sweet Spot... Casting Reels
While I have a few reels over the $200 mark, I have been on a an older Daiwa buying kick of late. I picked up an Alphas Finesse Custom for like $115 shipped and honestly like it more than the $200 NIB SV105s I got earlier in the year. Same thing with a used PX68 I got for just under $200. I think I am going to buy up a few more older Alphas series reels before I dip my toe into anything nicer. I think I would almost rather get an older used reel and spend the money to send it to a good tuner then to spend the same money on a NIB reel.
Re: Budget Sweet Spot... Casting Reels
I fish 99% Curado's and Calcutta's so I voted the $176 - $200 range although I do have some of the larger 300 CU's and 400 CT's (and a 400 CT). A $175 to $250 price range would describe me to a T! Haha
Re: Budget Sweet Spot... Casting Reels
While for some the new Curado 70 reels are a budget buy, for me, they are pretty pricey. I have one, along with a Stradic FJ, but for budget reels, I'd say in the 90-125 range is the best choice for my situation.

Re: Budget Sweet Spot... Casting Reels
I chose the 250 as a max. Reason being is you can get some high end gear at used prices very cheap. Guy has a used Met MGL JDM reel for sale here at 275. Thats a 420 dollar reel retail. You can't beat that price.
I found a used Met MG7 on the forums a few months ago for 150 shipped. Close to 4 bills new and the reel had a few marks on it. Maybe a 7/10. 6 months ago, guy had a brand new in the box Met MG. 200 shipped.
Hard to beat the used market.

I mainly buy between $250-$450 Daiwas but I try to keep under $300 when I can.

I like to keep it under 200 USD, but my most expensive reel is a Calcutta Conquest. Even though I enjoy high end reels, my favorite one is an Abu C3 4601
